Security Survey / Security Audits
- A growing problem in our technologically advanced society is the increase in security related issues for small to medium sized companies. Many businesses are often oblivious to these security issues until the business itself is affected. Most often they lack well-trained staff, which results in gaping holes in the security structure and leaves the company at great risk of being compromised.
- The safety and security of an establishment is affected by three primary factors: SECURITY, DESIGN and CLIMATE.
Physical security includes hardware and technologies such as lights, locks, alarms, cameras, and other monitoring systems, and metal detectors. It also includes security officers and law enforcement. Physical security measures deter crime by sending the message to would-be perpetrators that it will be difficult to commit an act of violence or crime in this place;
- Design can also affect safety and security. Things to look for include:
- Access control – Are visitors being monitored? Is their access to and within the buildings limited?
- Natural surveillance – How well can people be monitored without the use of technology? (Places like stairwells, hallways, bathrooms, and locker rooms.)
- Territoriality – Are the buildings and grounds well maintained? Welcoming? Do the workers take ownership of the facilities?
Climate refers to the attitudes and values of the staff. Examples of a good climate are a high level of respect, a focus on achievement , and fair & consistent disciplinary policies.
